Nigeria is currently witnessing an alarming increase in the rate of substance use and abuse among the youths and even adults. The disturbing phenomenon continues to constitute a great threat not just to those directly involved in the use of these substances but also to society as a whole. Aside from drugs such as cocaine, heroin and amphetamines, abused by the elite and high net worth individuals, the most abused substance is cannabis (Indian hemp), taken by a whopping 10.6 million Nigerians. This makes cannabis, perhaps next to alcohol, the most commonly abused substance in the country. Press Statement ... Political Violence:Afenifere Condemns Attacks on Ndigbo in Lagos

Afenifere condemns in the strongest terms the political violence visited on Nigerians of Ndigbo extraction in Lagos during the Saturday Presidential elections.  Dirty political merchants and their band of thugs apart from engineering political disenfranchisement of Ndigbo,went ahead to visit violence on them and burning their votes en masse. The political vandals they used were said to have been calling themselves OPC but our checks with the genuine leaders of the group have shown that the deragend elements had no affiliation with the OPC known by Afenifere. We frown seriously at the failure of the security agencies to give adequate cover to Ndigbo in the affected communities as these thugs went berserk carrying out the instructions of their sinking political godfathers. SYLVA, A DESPERATE POLITICIAN UNDER THREAT FROM HIS CONSCIENCE - DICKSON ...SAY HE RUNS WHEN NOBODY PURSUES HIM

The Bayelsa State Governor, the Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, on Wednesday described former Governor Timipre Sylva as an unpopular and desperate politician whose conscience remains his greatest threat.     Dickson said in a statement by his Special Adviser, Media Relations, Mr. FIdelis Soriwei, that Sylva cuts the gnawing image of a troubled man screaming and fleeing at the sight of nobody.     Dickson was reacting to a claim by Sylva that the governor was behind a plot to pitch the Chief òf Staff to the President, Mr. Abba Kyari, against him through orchestrated media reports.       Soriwei said that Governor Dickson is too involved and indeed occupied with the execution of the mandate the Bayelsa people gave to him, to be distracted by the hallucinations of a politician whose lifeline in politics was the state òf the mood of his political masters.     The Governor’s media Aide said that it was queer and absurd that...
