TORU-ORUA LOSES RESTORATION CUP SEMI-FINAL

May 30, 2018 The hopes of Toru-Orua community to be in the finals of the second edition of the Governor Seriake Dickson Football Tournament ended on Tuesday. Toru-Orua, which is Governor Seriake Dickson's community, lost to Peretorugbene community 9-8 on penalties in the first semi-final game played at the Samson Siasia Sports Complex in Yenagoa. The pulsating game, which ended 1-1 at regulation time, witnessed lots of interesting moments from the blast of the whistle till the end as both teams showcased strength and determination in their quest to be in the final of the competition. Toru-Orua midfielder, Bibo Amgbare, almost broke the deadlock with a beautiful free kick in the 33rd minute but his goal bound shot was parried by the goalkeeper while Peretorugbene's Matthew Effie's well taken free kick in the 38th minute was also saved. RESTORATION CUP: QUARTER-FINALISTS EMERGE

Ekpetiama community alongside Ayakoro-ama, Okpoma and Opu-Nembe have all booked their places in the quarter-finals of the Governor Seriake Dickson Football Tournament. Also in the quarter-finals are Peretorugbene, Otuasega and Amassoma communities. At the Okordia centre, 'Giant Killers' Azikoro scored in the eight minute through striker, Allison William, but their joy was short lived as Ekpetiama equalized through James Singer  three minutes later to end the first half making it one goal apiece. Again In the 67th minute, Ekpetiama's forward, Godwin Godgift, scored from a close range to break the tie. At Otuasega, Nembe City crashed out of the tournament after losing 0-1 to Opu-Nembe, with the only goal scored by Didi Andrew while at Odi, Kaiama also kissed the competition goodbye, losing 4-1 on penalties after the game ended in a draw at the mark of regulation time. All in all, One hundred and fifty teams, including three tertiary institutions, a media outfit, a religious organisation,the Government House team and the Nigerian Air Force registered for the competition. The event featured amongst other activities a public presentation of the tournament's Ambassador, Samson Siasia, a foremost indigene of Bayelsa, former Super Eagles player and coach of the Nigerian national team. Seriake Dickson Football Tournament Season 2 (Restoration Cup 2018) has appointed Samson Siasia, an Ambassador of the foremost grassroot football tournament.   In a letter dated 7 May, 2018 and signed by the Director-General of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Ono Akpe, the board said by the appointment, Siasia is expected to serve as a role model and mentor to upcoming players even as his international exposure will be an added advantage to the exercise of discovering and developing football talents at the grassroots. . Initiated in 2015, the football tournament is the brainchild of the Bayelsa State Government and it is supervised by the Bayelsa State Football Association and supported by the private sector. Presenting the letter of apointment to Siasia, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 in Abuja, Mr. Akpe, who recognized the former Super Eagles player cum coach as the pride of Bayelsa, nay Niger Delta, said the major aims of the tournam
