PRESS RELEASE: LAUNCH OF BOOK: ‘BUILDING SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS’… A BOOST FOR PPP INITIATIVES IN NIGERIA
The concept of Public Private Partnerships is one
that is primarily designed to serve as an effective means of providing public
infrastructure that cannot be provided by Government alone due to the paucity
of funds.
Unfortunately, the implementation of the Public Private
Partnerships (PPP) initiative across sectors of the Nigerian economy is one
that has recorded little success over the years. Experts have held the strong
view that the arrangements are not working and rather than have positive impact
on the economy, it has rather had adverse effects on the fortunes of the nation
particularly in the area of infrastructural development.
In view of the undesirable state of the PPP situation
in Nigeria inspite of government’s efforts to the contrary, Mr. Sam Inengite an internationally
trained Chartered Accountant and Financial expert whose exposure spans over 20
years in various aspects of the world of finance, has published a soon to be
launched 10 chapter book BUILDING SUSTAINABLE PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS which
critically examines the contending factors that have impeded progress while
also proffering a wide spectrum of solutions aimed at ensuring the
effectiveness and efficiency of the PPP arrangement in Nigeria.
Decrying the sorry state of Nigeria’s
infrastructural development Mr. Inengite at a press conference held at the
offices of Red Sapphire Nig. Limited, PR Consultants on the project, stated
that infrastructural deficits stands as the country’s major challenge adding
that “Infrastructural deficits in Nigeria
is due largely to the lack of financial resources and the lack of knowledge of
the rudiments of PPP which have made its effective realization difficult. There
are also other factors involved such as finance, environment, leadership and
legalities which must be urgently addressed if we are to move forward”.
Mr. Okezie Okereke an executive of Red Sapphire Nig. Ltd, consultants on the book project (l) listens attentively as book author and financial expert Mr. Sam Inengite (r) addresses the press. |
Speaking further on his decision to write the book,
Inengite stated “The essence of
the book is aimed at examining possible solutions on how Nigeria can bridge the
existing infrastructural gap and get the implementation of the PPP policy right.
“This is the first book of its nature that thoroughly focuses on such issues,
effectively addresses all major aspects of Public Private Partnership and puts
forward solutions which will further enhance government’s efforts in that
regard”.
Mr. Okezie Okereke an executive of Red Sapphire
Ltd. who anchored the press conference, informed stakeholders that the book
would be formally launched on December 13, 2018 by 11am at the NAFF Event Centre,
located at Jabi District, Abuja. Expected to grace the occasion are captains of
industry, heads of relevant government institutions, members of the National
Assembly, various stakeholders and interested members of the public.
Mr. Okereke, highly recommended the book describing
it as a positive boost for PPP initiatives in Nigeria.
